This series was created during the social outbreak in Chile and distributed among “front line” protesters, who are volunteers whose mission is to protect the demonstration by creating a barrier between Chilean police brutality and peaceful protesters. The shields confront aggressors with their own reflection whilst serving as a form of camouflage to the protesters that use them. Shot at 120fps, the result is a slow motion video of the protest, where mainly the hands of protesters can be seen while carrying stones, slingshot and other weapons and confronting the police. 'Architectures of intimidation', is a body of work that investigates the shapes used in properties to keep possible intruders away. The different models used throught history speak to us about wealth disparity, obsesion with property and a pervert way of using ornamentation. In England, as well as other north European countries, there is the tradition of ornamenting the spikes over fences and camouflaging them into shapes that resemble organic forms, an efford to hide them in plant-like combinations that can hide almost like “garden decoration”.&nbsp;All the models used in the series of sculptures are real models collected around Europe, dated from the 50´s to the ones used nowadays. The spikes are transformed into vertical sculptures. Somehow, these methods of separating the land and the efforts of keeping potential trespassers away, reflect how the 'other' is imagined. 'Architectures of intimidation' is part of a longer-term project around borders, on how they are physically constructed as well as how they are imagined and affected by ideology. Since the crisis started, “It's called a Democracy but it's not a Democracy”, “We are not scared” and “These are our weapons” are common phrases at demonstrations, sung in monotone by thousands of people. In the video a choir called Solfonica sings the piece in an empty theatre. Solfonica is an assembly-based choir that sings only at demonstrations in Madrid, its a "protest choir". In this case, the fire is made from the wood slabs of the floor from the last house owned by Dictator Franco, who ruled Spain until 1975. The house is located outside of Madrid. The heritage of the dictator is still very present in Spanish society. This small act of iconoclasm was the only available opportunity to act on the belongings of the dictator, but also a remainder of how the energy from facist times is still affecting us, almost crawling inside our living rooms. The revision of the historical period has always being made by those who won the Spanish Civil War. The law “Ley the la Memoria Histórica” declares that the state should apply measures in favour of those who have suffer persecution or violence during the dictatorship period. Today, most of the Spanish political structure pays respect to the ideological principals of the old regime, and therefore all possible impediments have been made for this Law not to be applied. Hardly any change have been made.
