This video work that emulates thevirtual fireplace videos that circulates on the net
and often used in Chrismass time. In this case,
the fire is made from the wood slabs of the floor
from the last house owned by Dictator Franco,
who ruled Spain until 1975. The house is located
outside of Madrid.
The heritage of the dictator is still very present
in Spanish society. This small act of iconoclasm
was the only available opportunity to act on the
belongings of the dictator, but also a remainder of
how the energy from facist times is still affecting
us, almost crawling inside our living rooms.
We should be able to enjoy seeing the last remnants of a dictator burn.
